27.09. - 2.10.2010 - project meeting in Korpuskóli, Iceland
- Latvian and Estonian teachers visited Korpuskóli in Reykjavik. It was very interesting to learn opened classroom method of teaching, what is quite different from traditional pedagogical approach in Estonia and Latvia.
New schoolhouse of Korpuskóli was built just so, that it is possible to teach more than 50 students in one classroom. Foreign teachers could not even imagine it, before they haven´t seen it with their own eyes. There are two teachers working in one classroom, what is suitable for teamteaching and teamwork. Classrooms are comfortable and well-equiped. In several lessons, what we visited, guests realized, that children had less stress and free behavior was axepted. Observing lessons was only part of project activities. Guests also teached two lessons about their country in Korpuskóli. Students were very interested in this topic and worked well.
We had several lectures and workshops during project week:
"Teamteaching" by Svanhildur M.Ólafsdóttir made guests think about enrich their own working methods.
"Creadtive use of Digital Media in the Classroom" by Björgvin Ivar Gudbrandsson offered also practical movie making tools and lot of fun during groupwork - we made our own short cartoons!.
Outdoor learning workshop by Helena Olafsdottir with many interesting and funny games was held on the seashore in spite of heavy rain and nasty wind. In History lesson in National museum we got overwiw of Icelandic history and methods, how museum teachers work with children. Interesting was art lesson in National Gallery. Marvellous was visit to Pearl - old watertower, what works now as sightseeing platform and exhibition place, having its own geysir inside the house.
